Greetings, Sorors!
As summer winds down, I hope that you are recharging 
for a successful fall.
I appreciate the time that you have made for Alpha Kappa Alpha this summer. Nearly 500 North Atlantic Sorors attended the recent Leadership Seminar in Atlanta. We turned heads in our pink and green twin sweater sets – even Dr. Ian Smith gave us a shout out at the opening ceremonies. We enjoyed the southern hospitality while learning how to better serve and lead our chapters and communities along with more than 3,900 other Sorors. Many thanks to Soror Bernice Ripley and the International Leadership Training For External Service Committee for organizing the fantastic workshops and presentations, and the North Atlantic Region Sorors who volunteered to serve on the Protocol Committee. It was wonderful to see Soror Ariana White, the first recipient of the Capture the Promise EAF Endowment, at the Leadership Seminar. Soror Ariana is a member of Lambda Tau Chapter at Eastern Connecticut State University. She was able to attend the conference through your generosity in capitalizing my endowment. Thanks again, Sorors, for ensuring that our young Sorors will have the tools to be future leaders.
I look forward to seeing you at the 9th Public Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., from Sept. 19-21. During this three-day event, we will explore ways to advance our civic, social and legislative agenda, focusing on unemployment, poverty and health disparities under the theme “The Time is Now!” Days later, we will kick off the Undergraduate Roundup – “Preparing for a Lifetime of Global Leadership through Timeless Service” – hosted by Omicron Pi Chapter under the supervision of Xi Zeta Omega Chapter. Our undergraduate Sorors will convene at the University of Maryland Conference Center and Inn from Sept. 23-25.
On a personal note, I want to thank you for the prayers and expressions of sympathy on the loss of my father. Your outpouring of support has been an incredible source of comfort and further proof that this Sisterhood is phenomenal.
