On Sunday and Monday, January 15th and 16th, Alpha Kappa Alpha chapters across the country and abroad are expected to engage over 50,000 Sorors and volunteers in service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will make the observance of his birth and the 104th anniversary of our founding a Day On, Not a Day Off.

The sorors of Pi Kappa Omega Chapter invite you to join them as they host the 2012 Cluster III Founders' Day Celebration.  The event will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11 am at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 455 South Broadway, Tarrytown, New York, 10591.

The theme for the 2012 Luncheon is 'The Gift of Sisterhood, A Legacy of Service,' which will acknowledge the gifts and wonderful legacy our Founders have entrusted to us. This year we will be graced with words of wisdom from our 25th Supreme Basileus Norma Solomon White as the Keynote Speaker, a truly dynamic speaker. Being in the presence of Madame Former Supreme is an honor and will be a most memorable experience. There will be a PowerPoint presentation to showcase programs and activities of our local chapters that exemplify the 2012 Founders' Day theme. In addition, Cluster III will recognize individual chapter sorors who inspire their chapters to excel in Service to All Mankind.

The celebration will begin with the Rededication Ceremony at 11:00 am, followed by the Founders' Day Luncheon to commence at 12 noon and conclude at 3:00 pm. The contribution is $80.00 for Graduate Sorors and Guests, $65.00 for Undergraduate Sorors. The reccommended attire for the Founders' Day Celebration is all white dresses or skirt suits for sorors as is our custom in Cluster III.  Sorors should be mindful there are no pants or hats for the Rededication Ceremony. The Luncheon will be open to guests; therefore, invite friends and family as you wish.

You may also complete a paper registration form with a chapter check, certified check or money order, which must be postmarked by January 28, 2012. There is an additional processing fee of $10.00 for each paper registration. PERSONAL CHECKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. NOTE: THERE IS NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION.

Soror Bernice Bennett of the Theta Omega Omega Chapter in Silver Spring, Maryland recently launched her own genealogy blogtalkradio show called "Research at the National Archives and Beyond." 

Airing every Thursday night at 9 pm EST, the show focuses on encouraging individuals to research their family history.  Guests include family historians, researchers and writers who share genealogical strategies and resources.

In 1908, the founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated gave life to a very special bond of sisterhood that we hold near and dear to our hearts. For almost 104 years, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has continued to serve locally and globally with honor and distinction. The theme of the Cluster IV Founders’ Day, “Capturing Global Service Through the Seasons” is in tribute to those sorors who have contributed to the perpetuation of the ideals of our great sisterhood as established by our beloved founders.

Pi Mu Omega Chapter will host the Cluster IV Founders’ Day Luncheon on February 18, 2012 at The Westin Hotel located at 555 Fellowship Road in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Our own North Atlantic Regional Director, Soror Constance R. Pizarro, will be in attendance for this special event. The luncheon will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Soror Adriane Blair Wise of Washington, DC will be the guest speaker. During the luncheon, a Golden Soror from each graduate chapter of Cluster IV will be recognized as a “Pearl of Distinction” for making notable contributions and providing exemplary service over the seasons in carrying out the sorority’s mission of “service to all mankind.”

Vendors will also be available starting at 9:30 AM.

In keeping with our mission of helping others, a service project to benefit the senior members of the community will take place. Each soror is requested to bring to the luncheon one can of “heart healthy” soup which will be donated to the food pantry of a senior program in the Willingboro/Burlington County area. Additionally, each chapter in Cluster IV is requested to make donations of soup to a senior program in their local area during the period of January 1 – February 12, 2012.

Registration for the luncheon will be available on the North Atlantic Region website from January 9, 2012 until February 10, 2012. A paper registration form along with a chapter check, certified check, or money order must be postmarked by February 10, 2012. There will be an additional processing fee of $10 for all paper registrations.

Personal checks will not be accepted and there will be no on-site registration for this event.

The sorors of Pi Mu Omega Chapter look forward to celebrating Founders’ Day 2012 with each of you.

On Saturday, December 17th, Xi Omega chapter's Emerging Young Leaders Co–Chair Nancy Chavannes-Battle arranged a once in a lifetime Christmas tour of the White House for a group of 83 that included 25 sorors, 9 Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) program graduates who are now in Xi Omega’s Pathway program, 25 current EYL program participants and their parents. 

In addition to a tour of the White House, the EYL students enjoyed the Christmas decorations, including those of Bo the Obama family dog! 

The EYL program participants also teamed up with Xi Omega Sorors to donate 157 Christmas gifts (48 pairs of gloves, 55 pairs of socks, 24  hats,  21 scarves, 2 hand warmers, and 1 throw) to the homeless women who reside at Calvary Women's' Services at 5th and K Street, NW, DC.   

Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) is a signature program of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. It is designed to impact the lives of 10,000 girls in grades six through eight by providing leadership development, civic engagement, enhanced academic preparation and character building. The increasing demands of the twenty-first century mandate our youth to be better leaders at a younger age making smart choices with positive consequences.
